During this interactive, skills-building training, participants will learn the fundamentals of effective health advocacy, including strategy development and planning, communications, and evaluation. Drawing on successful health, women’s empowerment and civil rights movements, the training will help new advocates to find their advocacy voice, define an issue or problem, effectively target advocacy efforts, and promote their cause through traditional and new media (video, Twitter, Facebook).
You will learn:
- How to find your voice and why the world needs it now more than ever
- The key health issues impacting women of color including HIV/AIDS, chronic disease, reproductive health and domestic violence
- How to clearly define the problem/issue you care about and the solutions that will make a real difference
- How to use stories and real-life examples to make your case
- Building your advocacy case through statistics and evidence
- Creating a plan of action and putting it in motion
- The 5 w’s of reaching elected officials, media and other leaders you want to influence
- Coalition building – how to recruit allies and supporters for your cause
- Simple ways to use traditional and new media to build awareness and support
- Leadership lessons from women leaders and advocates
- Health and balance for advocates – time management, self-care and wellness principles to live by
